Now that we have taken a brief look at the cd g karaoke system that I recommend, you are probably asking yourself, “That’s great, but where do I get karaoke music for my pc?” I’ve found the most affordable way to get large numbers of popular karaoke songs for my system is by purchasing CDG discs and then ripping the files to my pc or laptop. CDG Discs have been around for a long time and you can find them almost anywhere. I would recommend starting with a large set of CDG Discs as your starting point. Two good examples of karaoke box sets that I would recommend are Karaoke All Hits Super Packor Sweet Georgia Brown’s Super Set.
With Sweet Georgia Brown’s Super Set
you get over 1,000 songs for about $75.00. That’s only 7.5 cents per song – legally! Check out my Karaoke CDG Discs Store to find a huge assortment of CDG discs that you can purchase! There are other ways to obtain these files by means of file sharing programs, newsgroups and torrents, but those means aren’t legal, and while I’ll leave you to your business and certainly can’t stop you from using these approaches – I wouldn’t recommend them.
Another legal means of obtaining CDG karaoke files is by purchasing downloads. I use this method when I’m looking for specific songs and can’t find (or don’t want to pay for) an entire CDG disc. The prices for these downloads range from $.99 to $2.99 depending on the sound quality of the file and the newness of the song. In future posts I will recommend some good places to purchase downloads, but for the moment let’s look at what to do with your recently purchased CDG discs.
Once you have your CDG discs it’s time to rip them to your hard disk! I highly recommend using TriceraSoft CDG Ripper 2 for this purpose. I purchased CDG Ripper 2 last year and ripped my entire CDG disc library to my hard drive. It does take several hours to accomplish this process, but you will not be disappointed once you have done so. One thing you need to do is make sure you put all of your files in the same folder on your hard drive. I have a master folder called “CDG Karaoke Files” and within this folder I put my CDG folders. Note that when CDG files are ripped from the disc the software places two files (a CDG file and an MP3 file) in a single folder named according to the name of the song, artist and disc. Winamp will search a single directory (and all sub-directories) to locate your MP3′s and will place them in the Media Library. In my next post I will explain the best way to setup Winamp for karaoke playback!
